Election 2023

Philanthropy New Zealand | Tōpūtanga Tuku Aroha o Aotearoa (PNZ) is the peak body for philanthropy and grantmaking in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We collaborate across sectors and are a constructive partner to Government. We advise on trends and issues relating to giving as well as provide insight into our members’ experience working with the wider community and voluntary sector.

As we look ahead to this year’s election, there are two key areas that we are seeking political party support for: a commitment to collaborate on a plan and actions to drive up structured and private giving; and the development of political party policies to strengthen support for the community and voluntary sector.

Driving up giving

We believe there is the potential for significantly more structured and private giving to progress social, economic, cultural and environmental outcomes for New Zealanders.

In our statement you will find a request to the NZ Government to work with us to develop a plan of action to drive up giving. We have developed examples of the type of actions that could make a difference.

Championing the community and voluntary sector

We hugely appreciate our country’s community and voluntary sector and the difference it makes to the lives of all New Zealanders. We feel this sector (that often cares for our most vulnerable) has been devalued and often overlooked.  In our statement we have suggested that their party act as a champion for the community and voluntary sector, committing to policies that are aspirational and enabling.
