PNZ’s Key points for the Long-term Insights Briefing consultation

Philanthropy New Zealand recently made a submission to the Public Services Commission on their Long-term Insights Briefing consultation – which was asking key questions about how the public service needs to change to respond to the challenges of the future.

We made two key points

1. The need for a strategic cross-sector relationship with the philanthropic sector through PNZ

2. One of the first actions that the new strategic partnership should seek to achieve is an agreed Blueprint / Action Plan for increasing philanthropic giving in Aotearoa, to provide important strategic direction and leadership for philanthropy and to supports a foundation for the Government’s commitment to public-private-charitable partnerships for addressing the most challenging issues facing our country.

We also provided key statistics and data on the philanthropic sector and the role of philanthropy. Philanthropic funders and grantmakers are leaders in innovation and offer important “risk capital” for projects that can later be scaled by Government where they show impact. Funders and grantmakers are close to communities: building capability; supporting grass-roots action; and delivering impact through Te Tiriti based partnerships.
