CE fortnightly message July 25

Kia ora koutou,

This month we were delighted to partner with Public Trust for Wills Week (15 – 21 July) a partnership that aligns with our work in celebrating and growing effective giving in Aotearoa.

This partnership gave us the opportunity to share compelling stories, provide practical tools, and offer insights that keep charitable giving in the public spotlight. If you would like to read a summary of Philanthropy New Zealand’s media coverage click here.

I'm looking forward to further amplifying some of these messages during Wills Month later this year in partnership with other members such as our Community Foundations.

Last week we also had a nice meeting with Minister for Youth Matt Doocey to talk about his portfolio and areas of interest, and opportunity for partnering with philanthropy. If you're interested in hearing more, please get in touch.

In alignment with Philanthropy New Zealand’s mission of enhancing capability and knowledge, we are pleased to offer "Funding Fundamentals 2024". Please be in touch if you wish to attend this years cohort, as the course content is relevant for a wide variety of your staff. Lifting the education of our sector is a space we're wanting to invest heavily into and would love to hear from you around more products in this space targeting those in youth, leadership, and experienced philanthropic practitioners.

Following the release of our "Prevention, Readiness, Response and Recovery from Disasters" guide, we are excited to introduce three new case studies on disaster preparation and response, developed in collaboration with the Joint Centre for Disaster Research at Massey University:

Case study one; Unleashing the power of localized disaster philanthropy

Case study two; Businesses supporting disaster resilient communities

Case study three; Navigating Cyclone Gabrielle recovery and reflections on philanthropic partnerships

Additionally, we have commenced preparations for the next edition of Philanthropy News. We shortly be sending our emails directly to members we think could contribute to this edition. We greatly appreciate the positive responses and feedback on our previous edition, "Philanthropy News: Funding Our Planet’s Future." If you have any suggestions or feedback for our upcoming edition, please email mei@philanthropy.org.nz.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Rahul Watson Govindan

CEO, Philanthropy New Zealand | Tōpūtanga Tuku Aroha o Aotearoa
